Mazepin about Formula 1 debut: "F1 is exciting, regardless of what the car can do"

Nikita Mazepin, who will make his debut in Formula 1 next year, is not worried about the quality of the car he will get from Haas. What does matter to him? Driving races. This he said in a video conversation with Motorsport-Total.com
"I'm happy, one way or another," Mazepin begins. “Because advancing to Formula 1 is exciting, regardless of what the car can do. At the current point in my career as a young driver, it is even irrelevant whether the car is good or not bad." As his main goal, Mazepin identifies: "I want to do as well as the performance potential and the speed of the vehicle allow."
Mazepin argues that the offer of an entry into F1 is rare and that if the opportunity arises, you have to take it, bad car or not. He says, "If you get into Formula 1, you basically only have one chance. When this opportunity arose, we decided to take it."
Beating his teammate
Still, Mazepin will not be driving laps for nothing, but will at least try to beat his teammate. "My job is to beat my team-mates, as always. And of course to do my best. So there is still pressure on my shoulders. But I think: I am ready for Formula 1. This primarily wants to prove to the team." Mazepin's teammate at Haas is still unclear, as the second seat hasn't been filled by team boss Guenther Steiner.
