With more and more seats getting filled for the 2021 Formula 1 season, more and more eyes are on Red Bull. One seat is available at Red Bull Racing and one at AlphaTauri.

The main candidate for the second seat at AlphaTauri is the Japanese Formula 2 driver Yuki Tsunoda. Team boss Franz Tost no longer makes this a secret at the press conference prior to the Sakhir Grand Prix. The Japanese driver only has to get enough points for his Super license. Tost also takes this into account.

“We have a plan B of course, and there’s absolutely no doubt that in Melbourne [next season], AlphaTauri will have two cars on the starting grid with two very competitive drivers," he is quoted as saying by Formula1.com.

May Kvyat still hope?

The only question is who is that going to be? Christian Horner reported during the same press conference that Albon is unlikely to be eligible for a seat at AlphaTauri. And so there seems to be hope again for Daniil Kvyat. Especially with these words from Tost.

“Dani is experienced, he knows the games and the rules in Formula 1, he is a fast driver, and showed a good performance in the last race and today in FP1. I hope that also on Sunday he will be quite competitive and for the race in Abu Dhabi, and then we will see," Tost added.
