According to Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, there is a chance that Lewis Hamilton will enter the W11 before the season finale in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton doesn't seem to be feeling very well at the moment, but according to Wolff it is an option to have the Brit back in the car next Friday.
Replacing Hamilton in Sakhir
Hamilton tested positive for the coronavirus last Tuesday. Because of this he is on the sidelines of the Sakhir Grand Prix and his Mercedes is being driven by George Russell. Russell is doing fine so far, but Wolff hopes that Hamilton can be back in the car next week.
Return in Abu Dhabi is possible
"We have seen tests that were negative within ten days, so I think that is perfectly feasible," said Wolff at the FIA press conference on the possibility of Hamilton re-entering next week. "in my opinion but it would be a very positive development.
"Nevertheless, you need to look at the situation anyway because there is many athletes have tested positive for a long time after any symptoms and after they’ve been in any way infectious – but this is something the FIA needs to look into anyway," concludes Wolff.
