Szafnauer: "I hope this helps to gain fourth in the championship"
Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer can hardly believe that his driver won the Sakhir Grand Prix. Sergio Perez was the first to cross the finish line in a crazy race to win his very first Grand Prix.
"I am really happy and really pleased for the team. What a drive from Sergio today from last to first. Not many people can say that. He absolutely deserves to be in Formula 1. I hope this helps to gain fourth in the championship and definitely deserves a place on the grid," said Szafnauer after the race in an interview with Sky Sports F1.
Profit for the whole team
"This is my second win in my career but it's not about me. It's about the team. We had two incidents and had to rebuild two cars and we had a very little few parts and the team had to work night and day," the team boss continues.
"We kept telling him after the incident that the car was okay. Then we pitted for mediums and then he locked up under the safety car and then it wasn't too bad so we kept him out and went to the end," Szafnauer concluded.
