Lawrence Stroll: "This one is on merit" after double Racing Point podium
For the first time ever, Racing Point stepped onto the top step of the Formula 1 podium. Sergio Perez won the race in Bahrain, and Lance Stroll also finished third to record a double podium for Silverstone based team. An emotional owner Lawrence Stroll reacts to the Sakhir Grand Prix.
"Well deserved. One weekend you are down and the next you are up. This one is on merit and not on luck," Stroll told Sky Sports.
Last weekend, Perez was on the way to a third-place finish when his engine blew up in the final stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix, but the team have bounced back very quickly.
A reminder
"What people forget is they were already a good team when we took them over. 400 people. They have been fighting up there and I brought some money and the management experience to help them get to where they are today," he added.
First-time race winner Perez is still without a seat next season.
"Checo has been a fantastic asset to the team. He has been here before me, and he deserves to be in F1 but I really hope he gets the Red Bull seat. Well done to the whole team."
