Reaction to emotional Schumacher after F2 win: "I can understand very well"
Mick Schumacher crowned his move to the Haas F1 team by taking the Formula 2 title last week. Nyck de Vries is happy for the young German and states that the son of seven-time world champion Michael has earned it.
"Of course I would like to congratulate Mick on his championship. You saw the emotion and release afterwards in him. I can understand that very well. It is, of course, fantastic that such a name in motorsport can win this championship and move on to Formula 1. All praise for Mick," De Vries says in conversation with De Telegraaf after the Formula 2 weekend in Bahrain.
Schumacher very consistent
Schumacher was especially very consistent in 2020, without being the fastest very often. "He has shown that Formula 2 is not necessarily about pole positions and winning races. His consistent performance has been rewarded," said the Dutchman, who currently races for Mercedes in Formula E.
Until the last weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit, several drivers competed for the title. "It has been a very good year with many different drivers fighting for the podium. I continue to think it is a special championship. In the end, everyone lives to win Formula 2 and then take the next step in his career," De Vries concluded.
