Sergio Perez took his first win in what looks to be his penultimate Grand Prix. Joy is the over riding emotion, but thinking about his situation, the Racing Point driver still makes a striking statement. According to Perez, you won't find the best drivers in F1.

F1 doesn't necessarily have the best drivers

The Sakhir GP was a spectacle that resulted in an unpredicted podium. Sergio Perez led the way, followed by Renault's Esteban Ocon and teammate Lance Stroll. Coincidentally, it was the second-placed Ocon who did not appear in Formula 1 last year - the reverse of Perez's story as the Mexican is likely to miss out next season.

Perez takes the opportunity to make a comparison. During the press conference after the race, the Mexican says: "I think Esteban mentioned that drivers like him missing out on seats, so it’s just the way Formula 1 is, it can be really tough and not the best drivers are in Formula 1 unfortunately. So we keep pushing and we keep delivering and I think that’s the best way to do it."

Renewed enthusiasm in Perez

Perez will probably be without a race team after the next race in Abu Dhabi. He doesn't seem like he'll be on the starting grid in Australia. A painful fact for the driver who has been the top scorer of his team every year since 2015.

Perez: "I’ve always said about ’22 there was a race, taking a year out at this stage of my career that I am. I never know what’s going to happen, if I will have the will to come back for doing that, bad year I decide to stop but after today, after the last couple of races, I’m sort of determined to be here, either if it’s next year or the year after."

So Perez is aiming for a return in 2022 if he doesn't race in 2021. The Racing Point driver is not worried about this and says he has several options.
