While George Russell impressed by almost winning the Sakhir Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas had a less impressive weekend. Sunday was a chance to secure second place in the Formula 1 championship, but he was unable to cash in.

After Max Verstappen was forced to retire on the opening lap of the Sakhir Grand Prix, second place for Bottas seemed within reach. But with eighth place in the race, Bottas was not yet able to secure it.

Second place not the goal for Bottas

Verstappen has already stated that he doesn't care much about second place in the World Championship, but for Bottas the second place doesn't seem to be the goal either.

"I just want to win races. But second is obviously better than third," said Bottas to Motorsport-Total.com. "And with this car, Mercedes deserves to be first and second."

Bottas is looking forward to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last race of the season. "We're going to a normal track now, instead of a Mickey Mouse track. It will be easier to make a difference," said the Finn.
