Mercedes still gambles on Hamilton and 'just' puts up his board
- GPblog.com
Who will drive for Mercedes at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? That is still the big question. George Russell and Jack Aitken were present in the press conference but Lewis Hamilton's name is above the Mercedes' garage.
Last week Hamilton tested positive for COVID-19 and was unable to compete in the Sakhir Grand Prix. Russell was his replacement who was in turn replaced by Aitken at Williams. In Abu Dhabi, however, it is still unclear who will race for both teams.
Uncertainty at Mercedes
The press conference that will start this morning will be hosted by Aitken and Russell for Williams and Mercedes respectively. Mercedes, however, have already indicated that a great deal is still unclear and that they want to do everything they can to get Hamilton to race anyway. However, the strict coronavirus rules in Abu Dhabi do not make it easy for the seven-time world champion.
Mercedes are prepared to postpone this until the last moment and so we see the Hamilton sign above the Mercedes garage and the Russell sign above the Williams garage. So these are uncertain times for all three drivers.
