Verstappen's success sparks Bottas: "This no longer occurs"
Valtteri Bottas took second place in the championship in 2020. The Finn defeated rival Max Verstappen. The Dutchman managed to finish ahead of Bottas in Abu Dhabi. The "fighting spirit" Bottas flares up as a result.
It could have been worse for Bottas
The difference between the Dutchman and the Finn is nine championship points. Max Verstappen managed to get close to the rear Mercedes with his lesser Red Bull Racing car. Bottas is therefore wary.
After the race in Abu Dhabi, Bottas told the assembled press: “The season finale could have been worse. And actually, looking at the bigger picture, it only motivates us more to work harder in the winter after losing to Red Bull this race. So that this no longer occurs. ”
Bottas still far behind
Bottas has some valid comments on his second place this year. The Finn narrowly beat Verstappen but was completely lost by teammate Lewis Hamilton. The Brit became world champion and beats Bottas by a difference of 124 points.
“If you are a driver of the best team of the season, you cannot be very satisfied with second place. However, it is important to add something to the team this season; to the fourth constructors' title for me and the seventh for us. ”
“It is certainly better than third,” Bottas concludes. “I think I will receive a small trophy next week. When I'm old and grey, I can look back on this season and say, 'Yes, I was second'. Hopefully, I'll get another bigger trophy one day."
