After the official end of the Formula 1 season, tomorrow the Young Driver test in Abu Dhabi is set to take place. Fernando Alonso, who with his 39 years of age is not exactly a young driver anymore, can also participate in the test day. The Spaniard has now responded to the commotion surrounding his participation and the added value that the test day has for him as an experienced driver.
"Honestly, it's not very important," Alonso admits concerning his participation in the Young Driver test day. “I know that there was a lot of media attention to this. I mean, every kilometre is important, and it will be welcome.”
2018 tests were more important
Alonso continues, as cited by Autosport.com: "So on that aspect it's gonna be nice to get some interaction with the people you will work with in the future. … But in terms of feeling or driving or something, it's okay, but it's not a day or night change for my preparation."
"But I feel more or less ready after the 2018 days. This one will be nice, because it's the race engineers and mechanics, so I get to know them a little bit more.” When he tested the 2018 car this was in cooperation with a junior team, Alonso explains.
