Red Bull Racing have chosen to replace Alexander Albon with Sergio Perez. According to Helmut Marko the choice was ultimately very logical, because the Austrian race stable really wants to compete for the world title in 2021.

Albon out for Perez

In 2013 Red Bull Racing won a world title for the last time with Sebastian Vettel, who was assisted by Mark Webber. Two years later, both drivers had disappeared from Red Bull and Marko had not yet managed to bring together two great drivers and a great car. In 2021, with the arrival of Perez, at least one part must be resolved.

''Our goal is to win the world title, just as in previous years. To achieve this, you need two cars at the front and Perez is in the shape of his life. With Albon there were ups and downs, so we had to make a decision. If we want that manufacturer's title, we need a strong man in that second car'', says Marko at ServusTV.

According to Marko, the Mexican also brings other extras. ''He has a lot of knowledge about Mercedes and since he had to leave Racing Point he has paid a lot of attention to it. We are hoping for input from him. In addition, he is great in the field of tyre management and his mountain of experience is a great advantage. We've seen how long he can drive so fast on one tyre compound," said Marko, who also went into the contract negotiations.

''Those negotiations were very short and there is a one-year agreement. We can always intervene if he gets other offers. We've always had a second car that didn't participate since Max's arrival, except in the period with Daniel Ricciardo. The deal is also against our nature, because normally we would choose someone from our own training," concluded the Austrian.
