Friends reflect on memories of Schumacher: "Schumi is a fighter"

This week it has been seven years since Michael Schumacher was severely brain damaged in a skiing accident in the French Alps. Time for many friends and former colleagues to reflect on the Formula 1 legend, which has seven world titles to its name.
Condition of Schumacher unknown
After the accident, Schumacher was kept in an artificial coma, from which he awoke six months later. Since then, however, little has been revealed about his condition, so there can only be speculation about this. However, it seems clear that he is unable to speak for himself.
Also for friends of Schumacher, who have worked with him in Formula 1, this is a moment to reflect on the driver. Former F1 driver Luca Badoer has become good friends with the German during his time as a test driver at Ferrari. He is one of the few who has been allowed to visit Schumacher.
In conversation with Virgilio Sport, Badoer talks about their friendship. "I met Michael in 1992, and when I became a test driver for Ferrari in 1998, we got to know each other better. From there, a bond of friendship, brotherhood and trust was born, which continues to this day".
"We went on vacation together with our families. My eldest son loves him, he is his idol from the past. He dreams of becoming a Ferrari driver".
Memories of first world title with Ferrari
Badoer also tells of a special memory of their friendship, during the celebration of the first world title they won with Ferrari. "Next to the track was the hotel and the amusement park, where we spent the evening with the whole team. We did karaoke and sang 'We Are the Champions' by Queen. It gives me goose bumps when I think back to that".
"It hurts me when I think about what happened. Out of respect for Schumi and his family, I didn't say a word about his condition. But Michael is Michael: He is a fighter and I hope he can recover soon", concludes Badoer.
