Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are using the winter break to recruit new talent for their own junior programmes. The World Champions are very close to acquiring Frederik Vesti, while Helmut Marko has already sealed the arrival of Ayumu Iwasa.

According to Ekstra Bladet, Vesti and Mercedes have been in contact for several months. The Danish driver was active in Formula 3 last year. He won three races and finished fourth in the championship.

Many talents in Formula 3

For next season the step to Formula 2 is not yet on the cards, but he will move from Prema to ART Grand Prix in Formula 3. Someone who will also be driving in Formula 3 is Japanese driver Iwasa, who will be supported by Red Bull from this year.

Iwasa has been a Honda protégé for some time now and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Yuki Tsunoda and force his way into the premier class of motorsport. Competition is stiff, however, as Red Bull juniors Dennis Hauger and Jack Doohan will reportedly also drive in Formula 3 in 2021. Vesti will certainly want to show that he is better than the young drivers at Red Bull.
