Calm around Hamilton: 'He can go his way, with or without a contract'

Lewis Hamilton has still not signed a new contract with Mercedes. The seven-time World Champion has been without a contract since January, but both he and Mercedes don't seem to be too worried about that for now.
Hamilton did not want to discuss his contract situation for 2021 during the 2020 Formula One season. After the season it was set to all be discussed, but that takes a long time this year. In February, there is still no news about the contract and it is all very quiet.
No contract news
''It is very quiet around Hamilton's contract, but they are also very relaxed. They know at Mercedes that the rumours will increase if this goes on longer, but they take that for granted. Mercedes and Hamilton want to continue with each other, that has always been the plan,'' Formula One journalist Craig Slater told Sky Sports.
''Lewis has no problem with not having a contract because I understand he can go to the factory. So he can just go ahead, with or without a contract. The deadline, according to Toto Wolff, is the day they fly to Bahrain, so that is 11 March. Mercedes however presents their car on 2 March with also the clothing of the drivers. It would be a big surprise if nothing is known at that presentation," Slater added.
