Grosjean reveals discussion with his manager after Bahrain crash
- GPblog.com
On Wednesday it was announced that Romain Grosjean would switch to IndyCar. This was mainly a confirmation of earlier rumours, as the former F1 driver had already been linked with Dale Coyne Racing. The team also recently announced that they had spoken with the Frenchman, among others. However, the incident in Bahrain has had some influence.
In conversation before Imola
Speaking to Racer, Grosjean said: "I got in contact with Dale Coyne before the Bahrain incident — I think the week before Imola, or a couple of weeks before Imola — and we got on very nicely,” Grosjean said.
“He made us an offer and I was going to do the full championships but then obviously Bahrain happened and for a moment I thought I was dead in Bahrain."
In his earlier statement, Grosjean said he will skip a few races because he feels the risk is too great. He will skip two races in Texas and the Indy 500 because he cannot risk another crash for his family. That is why he will not be doing a full season.
Let it go
After his crash in Bahrain, his manager thought it was time to call it on racing, but Grosjean persisted. "It’s always very difficult to predict the future but let’s say the first text message I got from my friend and manager Martin (Reiss) after the accident was, ‘Let’s forget IndyCar,’ and obviously after such a shock and such a terrible day you can understand that. But then I said, ‘Well, I think it’s still possible — I still want to do it.'"
A good assessment, considering he is now confirmed as a driver for Dale Coyne Racing.
