Nico Hulkenberg was a long-time contender for the Red Bull Racing seat in 2021, but it fell through the cracks. The German is now without a race seat in 2021 but may get the chance to work as a reserve driver.

At the end of 2019, Hulkenberg lost his place in Formula 1. Esteban Ocon was his replacement at Renault and Hulkenberg did not find a new place. However, he would be in action in 2020, as the coronavirus infections of Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll meant that he was still in action three times during the F1 season.

Hulkenberg to Aston Martin

The first race at Silverstone was a disappointment as he was unable to start, but his third place in qualifying for the second race impressed. When he had to step in at the last minute for qualifying at the Eifel Grand Prix, everyone was impressed when he raced from last to eighth in the race.

This put the German back in the sights of many teams, but in the end, he would get nowhere. However, Otmar Szafnauer has good news for the German, who might be able to count on a reserve spot at Aston Martin. ''That would be great. I think it's a great option for both parties,'' the Aston Martin team boss told German RTL.
