Companies lining up to "buy" Red Bull engine: 'There are parties interested'
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing can finally start rebuilding Milton Keynes. From 2022, Red Bull Racing will manufacture their own engines for Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri, and for this to happen, some things need to be done in Milton Keynes.
Red Bull to invest heavily
Red Bull got good news during the F1 Commission Meeting yesterday. It was unanimously decided that the development of the engines will be frozen as from 2022, so Red Bull can start working on their own engines. In Milton Keynes they have already started the renovations, but that is no small investment.
''We are crazy, but of course we have calculated it. It is a one-off investment in the building and the test benches. The costs afterwards will not be higher than buying another engine. It costs more what we do now, but not significantly'', Helmut Marko told Motorsport-magazin.com.
Companies in line
Marko, however, reveals something new. According to Red Bull's top man, some brands are already lining up to get their name on the Red Bull engine, as Red Bull did before with TAG Heuer. ''Of course there are no car manufacturers who want that, but there are other companies interested.''
All in all, Marko is very happy with the step Red Bull can now take. ''Now we are building an engine that is tuned with the chassis team. If we would have had an engine from Renault for example, we would have been forced to build everything around that engine. Now we can do that ourselves'', the Austrian concludes.
