Marko looks with astonishment at Hamilton's salary at Mercedes

Helmut Marko thinks the amounts Lewis Hamilton is earning at Mercedes are not normal. The Red Bull Racing advisor believes there should be a salary cap in Formula 1. With his new contract with the German team, Hamilton will reportedly receive between €30m and €45m.
During the meeting on Thursday (with all teams, the FIA and the FOM) such a salary cap was already discussed. The meeting was generally positive and at the next meeting, a possible salary cap for drivers will be discussed.
Salary Hamilton extremely high
"Hamilton is just too expensive for Formula 1", says Marko in an interview with RTL. The 77-year old Austrian would find it more logical if the salaries would also fall under the budget cap.
Currently, the budget cap is set at 145 million dollars. In 2022 it will be down to 140 million and from 2023 to 2025 there is a maximum of 135 million dollars. When Formula 1 decides to include salaries in the budget, teams will have to make choices: do we spend more money on one of the best drivers on the grid or do we go for a lesser driver and invest extra money in the development of the car?
