Gasly responds to Red Bull engine deal with Honda: "Best option available"
Pierre Gasly is "really happy" with how Red Bull Racing have completed a deal with Honda to takeover their F1 project when the Japanese engine manufacturers pull out of the sport at the end of the 2021 season. The Frenchman gave his response during AlphaTauri's car launch on Friday morning.
For a long time, the future was up in the air for Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri. With both teams running a Honda engine, it was important that an engine freeze deal was completed to allow Red Bull to make the engines.
Gasly is getting ready for the new season at AlphaTauri, as he looks to become a leader of the Italian team and impress those at Red Bull to regain the seat next to Max Verstappen. But for now, all his attention is on his current team and he's pleased with the engine news.
"It's good news for all of us. It's our last season with honda and looking at the future this was the best option available. I'm really happy that Red Bull and Honda managed to make this happen because it's going to be very useful and successful for the future of AlphaTauri," Gasly told AlphaTauri's official channels after the launch of the AT02.
Also happy with the car development
The 25-year-old reports that he is feeling confident ahead of the new season. His team, which was named Toro Rosso between 2006-2019, tell him that they're making good progress with the car despite only a small number of changes.
"At the moment the car looks awesome, it's very good looking and I love the one last year, but I love this one even more," Gasly continued.
"In terms of development, the regulations don't really change this much, there are few things which impact performance but from what I heard from the team they are really happy with how the development is going right now."
