'Sainz has made wrong choices before'
- GPblog.com
Carlos Sainz has finally found his place with a top team after years as a Red Bull junior and wandering around the middle of Formula 1. Unfortunately for him, he joins Ferrari at a time when the team from Maranello is in its worst form crisis since the early 1990s.
"As a racing driver I think Sainz has made wrong choices before", Tom Coronel says about that timing to Motorsport.com. He refers to the argument that arose behind the scenes between Helmut Marko and Carlos Sainz senior. Something that has certainly not helped him in the long run.
Ferrari is a dream
So now, at McLaren, he is leaving a team that looks positively to the near future. Last year they achieved their best result since 2012 and with the arrival of Mercedes as engine supplier the upward trend is likely to continue. With Ferrari, however, it remains to be seen how long it will take before they can fight for victories again in a serious manner.
Nevertheless, Coronel does not find it strange that the Spaniard has made this choice. "Of course you want to become world champion and I understand that, but if you drove for Ferrari then your career is really successful. I think Sainz is taking a gamble, but can really fall in love with the whole Ferrari dream story. After all, every driver has that."
