Albon: "My main goal is to be in a Formula 1 car, so I would"
Alexander Albon is still part of the Red Bull family despite missing out on a Red Bull F1 seat for 2021. What that family has in store for him in the future is not entirely clear, but Albon makes no mistake about the fact that he himself would like to return to Formula 1.
"Firstly the goal has to be with Red Bull. Not just to the four seats there. My goal would be to wait and assess. Obviously, if everyone is performing, then you’d know what the situation is. My duty is to focus on what’s going on right now. On getting the best for the team, doing what I can. Prove myself within the factory and with the guys," Albon said in an online press event attended by GPblog.com.
Albon is open to everything
In the meantime, he will have the chance to enjoy himself in the revamped DTM championship, which will now race GT3 cars. Albon has hardly any experience with that, but he is not concerned about it. "I’ve driven two laps in a GT3 car, it was at the Autosport Awards. It’s going to be different, but I haven’t done any testing yet. It will be a new challenge, a new experience. But it shouldn’t be too difficult. If you drive things so different from each other, it’s easy to separate them."
When asked whether he might also be willing to return to AlphaTauri and not Red Bull Racing, even if that is in a way a demotion, Albon leaves no doubt whatsoever about his intentions. "As I said, my main goal is to be in a Formula 1 car, so I would.”
