Tost doesn't get all of Red Bull: 'I'd rather take the whole back end'

It's no secret that AlphaTauri and Red Bull Racing work closely together through Red Bull Advanced Technology, and that will also be the case for 2021. An advantage for Franz Tost's team, although 2022 will be a lot harder.
Tost understands new rules
AlphaTauri, like its predecessor Toro Rosso, is clearly the sister team of Red Bull Racing. AlphaTauri trains talents for the main team. This is not surprising as AlphaTauri buys many parts from the bigger team to reduce costs.
''The team does not feel disadvantaged. We have chosen to use last year's chassis. Like every team, there are still options to further develop the aerodynamics. That the other parts may not be developed was devised to reduce costs, and I think that is a good decision," Franz Tost told Auto, Motor und Sport.
Collaboration with Red Bull
For 2022, however, it will be more difficult for AlphaTauri to compete at the top of the midfield. Whereas it can now buy many old parts from Red Bull Racing, that will not be possible for 2022. With the new regulations, all new parts will have to be made and AlphaTauri won't be able to just copy them from Red Bull.
''We can only work together within the rules, and that means we will take over the gearbox, hydraulics and parts of the rear suspension. I would prefer to get the whole rear end from Red Bull, but that is a bit difficult at the beginning of the new rules. In 2023 it will be easier. Then we can take over old parts from Red Bull Technology, and that saves a lot of money," concludes the Austrian.
