Alex Lynn taken to hospital after dramatic crash in Formula E race

The second Formula E race in Diriyah ended in a strange way after the race committee decided to end the race behind a safety car. The reason for that decision was however a dramatic crash by Alex Lynn.
In Saudi Arabia, Sam Bird can celebrate on the podium after a surprising victory in the second E-Prix of this week. Alex Lynn is however not so happy, as the British driver was simultaneously taken to hospital by helicopter. Lynn has regained consciousness and is being examined by the medical team.
What exactly happened in the closing stages of the Formula E race was unclear for a long time. The crash was not broadcast on the official feed. Viewers saw several cars alongside the track, including those of Sebastian Buemi and Max Günther. Lynn's violent crash came shortly after, with the driver flying upside down at high speed into the run-off area after the long straight. A bystander at the side of the track managed to capture the crash on video, which was shared by the Motorsport.com Twitter channel.

Bad luck for Robin Frijns
Lynn's crash also meant bad luck for Robin Frijns. The Dutchman had been in the lead for much of the E-Prix, battling it out with Sam Bird for victory. Just before the Safety Car, Bird used his Attack Mode to overtake the Dutchman and bizarrely take the victory. The podium was eventually finished off by Jean-Eric Vergne, who may still face problems as he only used one of his mandatory two Attack Modes.
