Team boss AlphaTauri: 'Gasly's confidence diminished by unexpected reactions'

Pierre Gasly will form the duo at AlphaTauri this year along with Yuki Tsunoda. In 2019, Gasly was still racing alongside Max Verstappen. At the time, the French driver failed to keep up with Verstappen. As a result, he was replaced by Alexander Albon. Team boss Franz Tost of AlphaTauri does know why Gasly performed worse in the Red Bull.
On YouTube, Tost says it has to do with self-confidence. "A driver performs best when the car does exactly what he wants. In the Red Bull that didn't always happen. So there were unexpected reactions. Gasly wasn't used to that yet, so he lost his confidence."
Teammate also important factor
According to Tost, the teammate also plays an important role. Gasly came to Red Bull to sit next to Verstappen. "Being Gasly you are immediately in second place. Verstappen already had several years of driving experience in Formula 1."
Now Gasly is precisely the man with experience. This season he will be competing in Formula 1 for the fifth time. His teammate Tsunoda is a youngster. The Japanese raced in Formula 2 last season.
