With Capito at the helm, Williams F1 want to return to the top
Jost Capito was well on his way to retirement. Williams, however, offered him to take over the team leadership at the last minute. The opportunity to work for a legendary F1 team like Williams was, according to Capito, a "great opportunity."
Shortly after Dorilton Capitol, Williams' new investors announced that Claire and Sir Frank Williams would be leaving the British team, Jost Capito was announced as the new CEO of Williams F1. Capito was well known in motorsport; he previously worked at McLaren and rally chief at Volkswagen.
A childhood dream
As mentioned, the 62-year-old German was already looking forward to his retirement, until the opportunity arose at Williams. To Formula1.com he says: "And when this [role] came up, I said to myself it’s more than a boy’s dream to run Williams. I am very competitive. Wherever I have been, I want to win," he said.
Future
However, the ambitions are almost impossible to express in words. After the last few years, it seems that it can only get better at Williams anyway. Capito: "We know the results from recent years, and we know why it has happened. Now with new owners, they are really backing it up. That’s why I joined. It’s a huge opportunity working with new owners to get team back where it has been in the past and where I believe Williams belongs, and that is very close to my heart.”
We will soon see whether Williams will be successful this year when the winter tests in Bahrain start.
