Tost: "Hope Red Bull will be able to beat Mercedes"

Franz Tost hopes that Red Bull Racing can break Mercedes' hegemony in Formula 1. The AlphaTauri team boss says it would be good for the pinnacle of motor sport if for once another team was able to win the world championship.
"I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Red Bull and it would be hugely important for Formula 1 that other teams win, other winners are on the podium and the championship is open until the last Grand Prix," Tost hinted in conversation with RTL. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will have to beat off one rival in particular. "I hope Red Bull will be able to beat Mercedes".
For AlphaTauri, a place among the first two is not realistic in 2021. Can the Faenza-based team even take a shot at the title of 'best of the rest'? Tost doesn't expect it. "No, no, no. McLaren is faster than us." According to the Austrian top man, McLaren is candidate number one for the third spot in the battle for the world title.
Fifth spot the goal for AlphaTauri
How exactly Aston Martin and Alpine are doing, Tost finds difficult to say. He's not impressed by Ferrari in any case, as he casually pointed out to the German media. A place in the top-five of the Constructors' Championship would be a good result next season. "That's the goal!"
Last year AlphaTauri finished seventh in the World Championship, despite a win by Pierre Gasly at Monza. McLaren, Racing Point and Ferrari proved more consistent over seventeen Grands Prix, so that's what AlphaTauri will have to work on. Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda will need to be stable if AlphaTauri are to make a run at fourth or fifth place.
