The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will again be held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. The situation is too dangerous to allow spectators on the grandstands in Imola.
During the first weekend in Bahrain, fans were admitted to the Grand Prix if they could show they were vaccinated. Formula 1 announced before the season that it hopes to welcome more and more fans during the season.
Imola without fans for the second time
The president of the Emilia Romagna region Stefano Bonaccini has announced that the race in his region on April 18 will be run without fans. "I hope it will be the last time without an audience. We hope that Formula 1 will return next year and that there will be many fans, because that would mean that we have won the fight against the virus", he is quoted by Corriere dello Sport.
It is the second year that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is on the calendar. Last season the race was surprisingly added to the calendar because several races in and out of Europe were cancelled. The race then was held behind closed doors.
