Tsunoda achieves something on debut nobody had managed for five years

Scoring points immediately at your debut in Formula 1 is not given to many drivers. Usually, it depends on the team where a driver debuts and since most of them have to start from the back, even drivers like Fernando Alonso had no chance in the past.
That it doesn't happen often that a rookie is in a position to score points, proved Yuki Tsunoda last weekend. After a poor qualifying session and a bad start it looked like he wasn't going to be able to do this either, but thanks to the fast AlphaTauri the Japanese driver fought his way through and finished in ninth place.
Successor of Stoffel
This is the first time in five years that a driver has scored points in his first F1 race. The last was Stoffel Vandoorne who was allowed to fill in for an injured Alonso at McLaren in 2016. He then picked up one point, also in the Bahrain GP, with a tenth place.
The Belgian immediately proved that a successful debut is no guarantee of a successful F1 career. Vandoorne was rewarded for his good debut with two full seasons as a racing driver at McLaren in 2017 and 2018. In those, he scored only 25 points, with his best result being seventh place.
