In 2021 the teams and drivers will only have two one hour sessions of practice on Friday. Half an hour less practice per session doesn't seem like a lot, but according to James Allison the plans at the team had to be changed.

Mercedes changes program

''Yes, we had to change our training plans because of the shorter practice, all teams had to do that. Last year we had the luxury to maybe wait ten minutes to let other teams clean the track, but we don't have this advantage anymore. We now have to go out on the track right at the start of the session'', Allison told Speedweek.com.

''We only had six or seven minutes to make changes, so that does limit your options. There's not much room to freestyle. You have a plan and you have to stick to it. So the pressure is high, but that makes it exciting. It's also more fun for the fans, because there's always something to see on the track'', Mercedes' technical director concluded.
