Marko has no pity: 'That happened to us countless times'

Red Bull Racing has finally caught up with Mercedes and a lot of that seems to be due to the new regulations. Where Mercedes says that these rules are there to slow them down, Helmut Marko doesn't want to show any mercy.
Marko has no pity
It's taken a while, but for the first time since 2013 Red Bull Racing looks set to compete for the world title. Mercedes didn't start 2021 so well, and that seems to be mainly due to the new regulations. Mercedes is complaining that these rules are designed to destroy their lead.
At Red Bull Racing, however, they're not worried about that at all. ''In our time when we won four world titles, the rules were changed countless times. We always interpreted them in such a way that they were against us,'' Marko said in a video from Motorsport-total.com.
Complaining Mercedes
''The reason was that we wanted to reduce the speed. The biggest argument came from Pirelli, where the tyre pressure was not allowed to be too high. That it has less effect on us is a prejudice and cannot be proved. Before Mercedes lost this lead, their concept was better anyway, but now suddenly it's ours.''
So Marko knows all too well what it's all about. Whereas Red Bull were often held back by new regulations between 2010 and 2013, the same could happen to Mercedes now. ''That's how it goes. If the regulations change, then you have to adapt to it,'' the Austrian concludes.
