´There's always pressure to perform in the Red Bull programme'
- GPblog.com
Seats at Red Bull Racing and sister team AlphaTauri are in high demand, especially given the technical strides both teams seem to be experiencing with the improved Honda engine. However, the queue for such a seat is treacherously long, as Red Bull junior programme member Jüri Vips also knows.
For a long time Vips seemed the obvious choice for the seat alongside Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri. Yet Tsunoda's meteoric development overturned the Estonian's rise throught the ranks, forcing the racer to postpone his much coveted promotion to Formula One.
High pressure
Speaking to Motorsport.com Vips explains how he experiences the Red Bull training programme, and how he assesses his chances of promotion at the moment: "There is always pressure to perform when you are in the Red Bull programme or any other programme to reach F1."
Vips also knows that his Formula 2 teammate Liam Lawson as well as Jerah Deruvala will be in the back of Helmut Marko and Christian Horner's minds should they be giving away a new seat. Vips tries not to focus too much on this: "That pressure is there for sure, but I don't think too much about Jehan or Liam, I focus on my own work.
Nevertheless, the question remains as to when a seat will become available with either team, given that the current Red Bull and AlphaTauri drivers experienced a relatively good start to the season in Bahrain.
