Honda are delighted with the first win of the year, achieved by Max Verstappen in Imola. The Japanese engine supplier has paid off, because it has been a winter of hard work to deliver a better engine for 2021. Toyoharu Tanabe looks back on the second weekend of the season.
A great team performance from Red Bull Racing, Honda and Max Verstappen has produced our first win of the season. Conditions were very tricky because of the rain that began before the start and there were many accidents and then even a Red Flag stoppage," Tanabe reported in Honda's team review after the second Grand Prix of the season.
Red Bull stays focused
The break was well used by Red Bull to map out a tactical plan for the rest of the afternoon. "However, the team coped with it well and this resultat is a great reward for our race team and also for all of our staff in Sakura and Milton Keynes who have worked so hard in the last few month to produce a competitive PU and of course, everyone at Red Bull Racing", the Japanese chief continued.
Tanabe is delighted that the first win for Honda of 2021 is a reality, but this is just the beginning. The engine manufacturer is chasing the world championship. "It is good to see that we have been competitive in the first two races, but there is a long way to go, so we need to keep pushing and tackle each race as it comes."
