'Red Bull have a reputation as real racers, but they're faltering'

Looking back at the four Grands Prix held in 2021, sporting director and expert Ross Brawn argues that the battle for the title is once again in Mercedes' favour, with direct rival Red Bull missing out by a few tenths to prove its reputation as 'real racers'.
"Red Bull always had the reputation of being real racers, and the pinnacle of Formula 1, but they’re faltering a little bit", begins Brawn in his look at the course of the current racing season. He does this in conversation with Michael McGrath for PlanetF1. He sees the Milton Keynes-based team failing to measure up to Mercedes again this year.
"Now, they may not have quite the fastest car, in fairness, and when you don’t have the fastest car you push, you try too hard sometimes", the sporting director also knows. "you have to take chances because if you don’t, you’re not going to win."
Pair of tenths
Brawn argues that a few tenths of speed could enable the team of Christian Horner and Helmut Marko to do battle with Mercedes. "Max and Red Bull have got a massive task to beat Mercedes. It’s up to Red Bull to find a couple more tenths to be able to have that buffer that enables you to compete", concludes the Briton.
