Gasly had tough fight with Vettel: 'Could have ended up in the harbour'

Although the TV director didn't exactly capture it well during the race, Pierre Gasly and Sebastian Vettel had a hard fight for fifth place. It ended well, but according to Gasly, the two could have ended up in port.
Hard but fair fight
Sebastian Vettel finally got his first points of the season in Monaco. With a good strategy he managed to overtake both Lewis Hamilton and Gasly. With Gasly, however, there was little difference. When Vettel came out of the pit lane he drove side by side with Gasly and managed to stay just ahead of the Frenchman.
According to Gasly it was a hard but fair fight. "To be honest, I went to him and told him that he couldn't have squeezed out one more centimetre," Gasly said to Motorsport.com. "You know when you go up the hill, it's not really straight. I was hoping he would give room, but actually I didn't know. It was tight, really hard racing, but still fair. I think if I had been a little more aggressive, we probably both would have ended up in port, so yeah, I'm glad we got out."
Best result of the season
For Gasly, sixth place did mean his best result of the season. "It was our best qualifying of the year yesterday with sixth position, and today is also our best race result, so I am satisfied," Gasly said. The Frenchman is now ninth in the championship. AlphaTauri also managed to move up a place in the championship at the expense of Alpine thanks to Gasly's sixth place.
