Hill on Hamilton: 'Not convinced he really loves Monaco'
- GPblog.com
Prior to the Monaco GP weekend, Mercedes had no major concerns. They were leading in both championships and they had won the last two Grands Prix with Lewis Hamilton. In the principality, however, things turned out differently than expected. Red Bull Racing won the race with Max Verstappen and took over the lead in the drivers and constructors championship.
According to Damon Hill, there is no shame in Mercedes having such a bad weekend."Everyone has that at some point. It's hard to get it right every weekend. There is a lot of stress and pressure and every single one will then break at some point. They are under pressure not only from the media but also from their rivals. Ferrari and Red Bull were pushing enormously," acknowledges the former world champion in the F1-Nation podcast."Then mistakes are easily made."
Hamilton not at ease in Monaco
Hill warns Red Bull that a weekend like the one at Mercedes could also happen to the team of Verstappen and Sergio Perez."Moments like this could happen at Ferrari or Red Bull as well. It has happened in the past and it will happen again". In Monaco, it was not just the Mercedes team, but Hamilton himself who was not in great shape.
Hill sees a pattern emerging with the reigning world champion in Monaco. "I've never really been convinced that Lewis loves Monaco. Nico (Rosberg, ed.) has said this before as well. It seems to me that Lewis is never really happy when he drives in Monaco," Hill concluded.
