During the GP weekend in Monaco, McLaren certainly stood out. This was not only due to the excellent performance of Lando Norris, but also because a special livery was used. There were a lot of positive comments about it but Andres Seidl, McLaren's team boss, makes it clear that this was only a one time thing.

In an interview with Motorsport-Total.com Seidl says it was only for a special reason and this livery will not be used again this year. "At the moment I just want to say that it was obviously a one-off paint job. It was intended for the iconic race here to celebrate a historic partnership with Gulf, dating back to the 1960s with Bruce McLaren. That was the idea behind the project."

In the new livery, Norris drove to third in Monaco, while Ricciardo finished outside the points and was even lapped by his British teammate.

LIVERY A SUCCESS

The idea seems to have been executed well, because most of the reactions were positive. The bright orange and blue colours were well received by most of the fans, ex-drivers and other critics. Unfortunately for those people, McLaren will return to the 2021 livery next weekend in Baku. Zak Brown and others have already asked other teams to continue this concept of separate liveries for one race. Whether other teams will adopt this example this year remains to be seen.
