Many F1 fans and analysts have been complaining for a while about the fact that there is little to no action to be found at the Abu Dhabi circuit. This was especially the case last year when little to nothing happened. The organisation is now going to change this. How? By changing the circuit.

Saif Al Noaimi, the CEO of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, reports he is among others facing Autosport. "We have looked at improving racing on the track. We have listened to our spectators, the fans, the drivers, F1 and the FIA and we have been working on making some changes, exciting changes, this year to the layout of the circuit."

What changes these should be, however, he is not yet willing to say. However, the changes are set to come as early as this year. "We will make some changes to the circuit during the summer, in time for this year's edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix."

Abu Dhabi wants to make racing more fun

Because that, according to everything and everyone in Abu Dhabi, is what is missing. "The aim is ultimately to create more opportunities for close wheel-to-wheel racing. We want to create more overtaking opportunities and generally create a faster race track, given the current rules for the vehicles. We're really looking forward to seeing overtaking and action and hopefully, the championship will be decided in the nick of time here."

In any case, it sounds hopeful. If all goes to plan the new layout will be ready by the end of this year when the season ends in Abu Dhabi. Perhaps the championship between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen can then be decided in a spectacular way.
