Mercedes and Red Bull provide more Technical Directives
- GPblog.com
In recent weeks, more and more guidelines have been issued to the race committee, with the new pitstop rule that will come into force from Hungary or the checking of the flexible rear wing just two examples. According to race director Michael Masi, these guidelines are more necessary because the title fight is more exciting than in previous years.
In 2021, everyone has been treated to a thrilling title fight between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing. But as that battle gets exciting for the first time in years, Masi says additional clarification is needed for the technical guidelines. The Australian acknowledges that the number of guidelines has increased, but he feels it is necessary.
Clarity is important in Formula 1
"The need for clarification or guidance and technical guidelines have indeed increased in certain areas," Masi is quoted by the Portuguese Autosport.pt. "But I think it has also increased as a direct result of what is happening with the competition on the track."
"I wouldn't call it a governance mechanism. But it's certainly a way of trying to communicate with all the teams about what certain regulations look like from the perspective of an internal technical department," Masi says. Clarity, he says, is what everyone wants in certain areas.
