Satisfied with Pérez: 'He has already provided a lot of points'
Sergio Pérez is having a mixed season with Red Bull Racing. Although he scored a victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, his performance at other races has been less successful. Nevertheless, Christian Horner remains confident in the Mexican.
The teammate of Max Verstappen came in this season as a replacement for Alexander Albon who failed to convince at the Austrian racing team. Albon then came in again in 2019 for Pierre Gasly who also failed to perform alongside Verstappen. Red Bull, therefore, seems to be aware that it needs to give drivers time to get used to their new car.
Red Bull considers new contract Pérez
For now, Pérez is not yet able to clear up all doubts, but Horner does not rule out the Mexican driver signing a new contract this season. "When we are both ready for it, then we will sit down with Pérez to talk about extending his contract. However, we still have a number of races to go until the summer break," he told Sky Sports.
Horner is reasonably satisfied with Pérez for the time being. "He has already provided a lot of points and is doing an excellent job. Therefore, it is not expected to be a long negotiation, but we have to be patient for the right moment."
