After the exciting qualifying battle on Friday, the start of the second day of racing at Silverstone has arrived. In the midst of this experimental weekend, the final free practice session will be held before the drivers can prepare for the first sprint race in the premier class of motorsport. How will the drivers exploit this last hour of practice before the moment of truth?

After being the fastest on track in FP1 Max Verstappen was beaten by Lewis Hamilton in qualifying. The difference was minimal, with Hamilton edging ahead to get the win by a difference of one-tenth.
Who has the upper hand?
Now the question remains as to what Verstappen can do to regain the upper hand. He admitted on Friday that he was struggling to control the car, suggesting that Red Bull had failed to find the optimum set-up. Meanwhile, Hamilton and the Mercedes team have been working hard on the simulator to get the best out of their car. They will be pushing to stay ahead of their rivals.

British focus
George Russell felt the full force of his home crowd during qualifying. The Williams driver reached Q3 for the second time running, and ran a lap with the track to himself to secure 8th place for the sprint race. He has one more practice session to make some fine tweaks to his car. Lando Norris also performed well in the sprint race for McLaren, and classic Hamilton returned.
