It was already expected, but now it is officially announced: During the weekend of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, the second sprint race of the season will be held.

Formula 1 announced this on their website. Also the time schedule for the weekend in Monza has been announced. The qualifying for the sprint race is scheduled for Friday 10 September at 18:00. The sprint race, officially known as sprint qualifying, takes place on Saturday 11 September at 16:30.

Sprint format at Silverstone deemed a success

This is again a race of about one hundred kilometres, which will last about half an hour. The first sprint race, which took place at Silverstone, was considered a success. There it was Max Verstappen who managed to beat Lewis Hamilton and took the session to his name.

The third sprint race to be held will most likely take place outside of Europe, but due to the unpredictable calendar, it is not yet certain where that will happen. Reports mention the Brazilian Grand Prix, but it remains to be seen if it can take place.
