Ocon: 'We're going to fight them until the end, point by point'
- GPblog.com
After a strong start to the season, Esteban Ocon's performances have slowed down a bit during the last few races, but at Silverstone he managed to score points for the first time in five races. At the same time, teammate Fernando Alonso seems to have found his way at Alpine.
Fifth place in the constructors' standings
Alpine are currently seventh in the Constructors' Championship with 40 points, but certainly still have a view of fifth place. The gap to AlphaTauri (nine points) and Aston Martin (eight points) is certainly still there, but it's not huge. Nevertheless, Alpine have announced that it will focus its development efforts on the new car for 2022.
Still, Ocon thinks fifth place should be possible. "I think our strength will probably be our fighting spirit, because we're not always the fastest of that group," he says to Motorsport.com. "But we're going to fight them to the end. And only the one who scores consistently throughout the year, point for point, will finish in that fifth place. There is still a long way to go. So we are ready to fight."
Favorite track
This weekend's race in Hungary is one that Ocon is really looking forward to. "It's a circuit I really enjoy, one of my favourite circuits," said the Frenchman. "There is a lot of combination in the corners. It will be important to get the tyres right. And yes, tyre consumption, good confidence in the car, that's all going to be mega important. So hopefully we can make the most of it and get some more points."
