After the summer break, Max Verstappen has some catching up to do with Lewis Hamilton, who has completely closed the gap on the Red Bull Racing driver and even gained a little in Hungary.

A few weeks ago, just before the British Grand Prix, things were looking a lot rosier for the Dutchman. He was comfortably in the lead in the championship and, together with Red Bull Racing, also looked strong at Silverstone, where he won the sprint race on Saturday and qualified on pole position.

Verstappen doesn't daydream about the world title

Just moments before, Channel 4 spoke to the Red Bull driver in an interview on their YouTube channel. Does he ever daydream about what it would be like to be world champion in 2021? "I never do that," replied Verstappen. "In an F1 weekend I just do my thing, and when I get home I'm also busy with other things. Then I rather dream about different setups I want to try for my sim races. Maybe that's boring, but I don't dream about Formula 1 that much."

Of course he keeps in touch with his team and prepares for the next race, but otherwise he keeps work and private life separate. "I always say Formula 1 is one part of your life, and what happens in F1 shouldn't affect you when you get home. If you have a bad race you shouldn't be all grumpy at home, but if I've won a race I'm not going to be super happy and crazy at home all the time either," Verstappen said.
