The third sprint race has been announced. After Formula 1 held its first sprint race at Silverstone and the second is scheduled for the Monza race, Stefano Domenicali has now announced where the third sprint race will be held.

On to Interlagos

In 2021 the sprint race format will debut in Formula 1. The sport is looking for a better format for the race weekend, and the sprint race was conceived as a test for the 2021 season. It had been known for some time that this would be done three times, but Domenicali has only now been able to confirm the third race.

''When we talk about the sprint race format, the idea was to offer something different to all stakeholders in F1. We said we wanted to do tests this year. One has already been done at Silverstone, another will be at Monza. And the third one will be in Brazil at the end of the season. After this test we are going to see what the next step will be,'' the Formula One CEO said according to Motorsport.com.

More sprint races in 2022?

After the first sprint race in Britain, everyone was naturally lyrical about the new format. F1 is doing everything it can to promote this format, as it allows for more action over the weekend. At the end of the season, Domenicali says he will evaluate, but there is a good chance more sprint races will follow in 2022.

''We are going to have a full evaluation at the end of the season. We have, of course, a plan for the future. We are developing and refining that after the comments we have received. We are ready to prepare a proposal at the end of the three sprint races which will hopefully be a big step and a different future of Formula One,'' the former Ferrari chief concluded.
