Nikita Mazepin saw the first half of the Formula 1 season come to an early end during the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Russian driver suffered so much damage to his car following a collision with Kimi Räikkönen in the pit lane that he was unable to continue.
Both drivers were driving in the pit lane in Hungary, with Räikkönen making a mistake and crashing hard into Mazepin's car. The Russian had to abandon his race due to a broken suspension, while Räikkonen received a penalty for the incident.
Mazepin is frustrated over the incident
Mazepin was quite angry in the press about the moment with the Alfa Romeo driver. "It’s just a shame that other teams make mistakes and send cars out," Mazepin stated in conversation with Motorsportweek.com. "I was willing to go to my box and could not have turned in any later and Alfa just came out and took my tyre off."
The Haas driver was actually confident he could perform in Hungary. "It could have been a race of opportunities but it’s not going to be. But I strongly believe that I have a long career in F1 and that’s seriously not the way I wanted to go into the summer break."
