The 2021 Formula E season is about to be completed, but after Audi and BMW, the next team is also going to step out of Formula E after this season: Mercedes.

Sources tell Motorsport.com. Toto Wolff has confirmed to the site that a decision has been taken by Mercedes. This decision has to do with the Genn3 period that Formula E will start next year.

Mercedes, it seems, finds it too much, in addition to the work that needs to be done in Formula 1 with the new regulations of 2022, to also pay attention to a new period for Formula E. It would therefore be the third major loss of the electric racing class after Audi and BMW.

Mercedes still in contention for Formula E title 2021

Because despite Nyck De Vries not having a best qualifying session on behalf of the Mercedes team earlier today, the Dutchman is still at the top of the standings. However, there are still six drivers with less than ten points on him. Everything will be decided in the final race.

Vandoorne did take pole in Berlin for the last E-Prix of the season. It remains to be seen where the future of both de Vries and Vandoorne will lie if Mercedes does pull out of Formula E. Williams, full time reserve driver or another racing class seem to be the three main options.
