After an incredibly exciting championship battle it was Nyck de Vries who delivered the final and decisive blow today. The driver from Sneek can now call himself Formula E world champion.

With only the final feature race in Berlin remaining, fourteen drivers were still in with a chance of winning the coveted title. The entire top six were within six points of each other prior to the final race, but amidst this threat de Vries managed to maintain his lead.

He did so in a crazy race, in which his three biggest title rivals were soon out of the race. Evans and Mortara collided at the start, when Evans failed to move off the line. Dennis eliminated himself just after the restart during an overtaking attempt.

In 2019, the Frisian driver of Mercedes already conquered the title in Formula 2. Where he already impressed then, the driver gave this season again his calling card to the racing world.

Formula 1 chances?

The driver is currently also working as a reserve and test driver for the Mercedes Formula 1 team. Amidst the seat race predicted within Mercedes and Williams, with an exit of Bottas and entrance of Russell, de Vries has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Russell at Williams.
