As if there wasn't enough trouble for the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps last night, the following drama has taken place. The current director of the circuit in Belgium, Nathalie Maillet, was found dead this morning in her apartment in Gouvy.

According to Belgian media, including The News Sheet, she would have been killed, together with her mistress, a lawyer, by her male partner. It is said to have been what the Belgians call a 'passionate drama'.

To DH Let Sports the mayor of Gouvy, Veronique Leonard, says the following. "I was warned, around 2:30 am, by the police, that a double murder, followed by a suicide, had been committed in this house in the rue de Houffalize". This would therefore also mean that the culprit is no longer alive.

Not the most colourful period for Spa

After the floods in Belgium and the damage that followed, and the recent complaints about the safety of the circuit after several serious accidents, the death of the circuit director is the next big blow that the circuit has to deal with.

In two weeks time, despite all these dramatic developments, racing should be 'normal' in Belgium. Then Formula 1 will wake up from its summer sleep. However, everything and everyone that has anything to do with the Spa circuit will not be looking forward to that at the moment.
