More time for Ferrari in the wind tunnel: 'It's not a game changer'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari have an advantage in the use of the wind tunnel due to their place in the 2020 World Championship. However, the fact that they are allowed to use their wind tunnel more often doesn't provide that much of an advantage, according to Mattia Binotto.
Ferrari finished sixth in the Constructors' Championship in 2020. An embarrassing result for the big team, but it did give it an advantage in 2021. A lower place in the final ranking gives an advantage in the use of the wind tunnel the following season.
No big advantage for Ferrari
"We have a bit more time in the wind tunnel based on the final position. It's one extra session. Normally one session is one week of development, and one week of development is generally less than a tenth of a second per lap," Mattia Binotto revealed to Motorsport.com.
"So yes, it's definitely an advantage, but it provides less than a tenth. Nevertheless, it is important and we are happy with that extra time. Not because of last year's result, but because it helps in 2021. However, we don't believe it's a game changer. It certainly isn't'', concluded the Ferrari team boss.
